Title: Foret de la Londe, France - SSR Tour ’92 (August 1992).

Pictured: At the site of an old monument with dates 1870 - 71, in the Foret de la Londe. The Foret de la Londe was the site of a battle, where the Regiment earned the Battle Honour of the same name. The men are veterans of the Foret de la Londe Battle.

B. Gen. Clift commanded the Regiment, as Lt. Col. Clift, in England, before it landed in Normandy, France, on July 7 & 8, 1944. He continued to command the Regiment in Normandy, including during the battle, on August 16, 1944, for the town of Falaise. On August 24, 1944, he was promoted to Brigadier and given command of the 6th Canadian Infantry Brigade, which included the South Saskatchewan Regiment. He suffered a bullet wound, that broke his leg, on August 29, 1944, during the Foret de la Londe battle.

Gordon Coleman was wounded in the Battle and lost a leg as a result of that wound.

Dave Robinson (read Dave's account) was a Bren-gunner in the battle. Fraser Lee was Platoon Officer. Later Fraser became a Major and commanded "B" Company. Hank Turner was with Support Company at that time.
