Jack Nissenthall and Dave Robinson.

The picture of Jack Nissenthall and me was taken at a reunion in Regina. His story is in the book "Green Beach" by James Leasor. I found it quite interesting. He was an English Airforce man, and was attached to the South Saskatchewan Regiment to go to Dieppe in 1942. He had to pick ten SSRs that would shoot him if he was going to be taken prisoner. He made a run for it. In the end he made it back to England. He was a radar specialist, and knew too much about our radar to take any chances on the Germans getting it out of him.

The group picture was taken at the Thank You Canada event in Holland in 1995. I named the ones that I could remember, and left blanks for those that maybe somebody else can fill in.

The Safe Conduct Sheet was dropped at Falaise telling the Germans what to do when coming in as prisoners after the Falaise Gap was closed. I was on watch at about midnight when they came fluttering down.

"Excerpts from recent letters from P.O.W.s" the Germans left laying around in a little town that we took over from them, to try to convince us to become prisoners of war rather than fighting on. The man in the picture being attended to by the German soldier was a man from Swan River by the name of Dubreuil. My uncle was taken prisoner at the same time and remembered seeing it take place. They were in the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders of Winnipeg. I have recently had them laminated in order to preserve them. These that I am sending you are copies that I had made from the originals.

The other pictures were sent to me by a cousin of mine that worked in the Archives in Ottawa, but I didn't know many of them. Maybe somebody else will.
