Just 13 days after he crossed the Channel and went into action, Pte. Martin S.C. Coen of Vancouver was killed, according to word received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. S.W. Coen, 633 East Twenty-sixth.

Pte. Coen enlisted in February of this year and went over-seas after six months' training with the R.C.A. at Petawawa military camp. He attended Livingstone Public School and John Oliver High School, and prior to enlisting was employed by Vivian Engineering Co.

Before the was Pte. Coen won many prizes at the annual Vancouver exhibition with his fine stamp collection.

The following was written and submitted by PT Maule:

Reference: the above person; I had a letter from his brother, Neil Coen, requesting any information of his brother Martin who was with the SSR and was killed on 26 Oct. '44. Our Master file showed he, K2604 Martin S.C. COEN joined the Regt on 20 Oct. '44 and was killed on 26th Oct. 44 (Beveland Canal). He was not listed in the Honor Roll, March of the Prairie Men, S.S.R. Casualty List (KIA, Wounded, POW, or missing); neither was he listed in the Book of Remembrance. Luckily I had obtained the Fatal Casualty List from the Memorial Museum of Groesbeek in 1987. I looked up the date: 26-10-44 - and he was listed as K2604 Pte. Martin Samuel Cameron-Coen. In view of this mix-up, friends and relatives who went to the Cd. War Cemetery at Bergum Op Zoom were looking for a head stone with the surname Coen - and went away disappointed in being unable Martin's grave. As they have not been able to obtain a photo of the head stone because of this, I have contacted the Curator of the Cdn Museum at Adagem, (Belgium) W.V. to obtain a photo and sent it to Neil.

Another case concluded.
