Yellow Beach - No. 3 Commando and 1st Ranger Battalion
The first Dieppe Memorial placed there by Prime Minister MacKenzie King on 18 August 1946. It is located near west end of White Beach in vicinity of the Casino. The RHLI & Essex Scottish suffered many casualties when attempting to take the Casino (see map, above). Described as "round white ball with Red Maple Leaf in center" with 'Canada' below, and a brass plate inscribed with date of presentation. MacKenzie King also placed the one on Green Beach on 18 August 1946.
